
Queen Latifah was conceived Dana Elaine Owens in Newark, New Jersey, on March 18, 1970. Latifah, the second child of Lance Owens and Rita Owens is well-known for her political activism and acting abilities as well as her gift for rhyme. A Muslim cousin has given Latifah the nickname "delicate and sensitive" at the age of eight years old. Latifah was a singer in the choir of the Shiloh Baptist Church located in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Her debut public performance in which she sang "Home" as one of two Dorothys in a production of The Wizard of Oz. Latifah's mother was the catalyst. She was very attuned to students and the music.
